I am going to try my hand at writing a blog about my Yerushalayim. What a challenge!

YERUSHALAYIM – first off I will call her by her native name (as Peking is Beijing or Bombay is Mumbai)

Yerushalayim – old, new, fun, anxiety, clerks, shop girls,  teachers, students, sun, rain, down to earth , above the clouds,  tearing down,  building up , friends , family…where shall I begin?

I thought about how I should approach this new endeavor. Should it be a sort of memoir trying to be chronological? A chronicle of my thirty odd years of living in Yerushalyim? Should it be snippets of different experiences? Or perhaps it should be about the many different and wonderful people who make up my amazing Yerushalayim experience? I think what I’ll do is a little of all the above.

So I’m in for a ride, let’s see how it goes.

There is a joke the Yerushalmim  (natives of Yerushalayim) like to tell in friendly banter with Tel-Aviv that goes:

“What’s the best thing about Tel-Aviv?”

“What?”

“Getting back to Yerushalayim”

So you know when you’ve had a day at the beach, or at a professional conference in Tel-Aviv or visiting family in Haifa, or a Simcha in Be’er Sheva , going home is special. When we drive back and we climb the hills, the lights of Yerushalayim appear and an almost audible sigh of relief can be heard – we’re back, we’re home.  It’s been a good day.
